My airbag light came on out of the blue(not from an accident) in my 2012 VW Passat. I took it the the VW dealership and they changed out the right control unit stating that was what was giving the code. After paying $550 that did not reset my airbag light. I then was told that they need to replace my control module for $622 and Labor of $337 for a total of $959. Do you think resetting to control module will eliminate the need to purchase a new control module?
Dealerships usually want to replace parts and see if that fixes the problem. It is best to test each part before replacing it. Good airbag or seat belt pretensioner will have a resistance reading range between 2 - 3 OHMS. If the resistance reading is in that range then that airbag or seat belt is good.
We reset airbag control modules by clearing crash history and crash data only after vehicle was in accident. Only send us airbag control module if your vehicle was in an accident/collision. Sometimes the airbag control module will have soft codes that will need to be cleared while the airbag control module is on the vehicle. If the airbag control module is defective it will need ro be replaced with same part number. I hope this answered your question.
On my experience with over a 100 passats it's normally the conector under the seat that is not making continuity but if you decide to send your module it it is way better to have yours reset than buy a new one. Dealer is not helping you out at all
