I have a 2013 Ford F150 that has not been in an accident and has 50000 miles on it. The airbag light has started staying on. I did a hard reset by unplugging the battery for an hour or so. When I reconnected, it functioned correctly for a while. Now it comes on and stays on sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. I've reached under the seats and squeezed the plugs to make sure they had contact and checked for frayed wires. The wires looked fine. The plugs felt fine. What do I need to do to fix this problem? Is this a sign that the module is failing?
The RCM is an electronic control unit(ECU). Any ECU can fail at any time. Because you have an airbag light on, I would have the vehicle checked for codes in the SRS. If you can communicate with the module and there are no codes, and the airbag light is on. Then more than likely you have a defective RCM. But if you have any codes then you need to diagnosis them first before going any further.
The only code that comes up is a B0092 airbag code left side restraint sensor 1.
If you tested or replaced the sensor and the wiring and they all test out good then more than likely you have an internal issue with the RCM. If this is the case then you will need to replace the RCM.
