I hope that you can help and advise. I have a 2009 vw passat. A few months ago with no warning a SRS Service message appeared on the dash saying airbag fault. I took the car to the garage who said it was the two rear airbag sensor. These were duly replaced but the code was still there. I took the car to another garage who again diagnosed the 2 rear airbag sensor. I then took the car to the vw main dealers who said that the problem could be the control module as this looked as if it had been interfered with and that the passenger airbag was the wrong one as it had only 3 wires and was going into a 5 pin connector.
They said this would be very expensive but were unsure if it would fix the problem. There is no airbag light on the dash simply this initial warning. Do you have any experience of this and could you advise. I live in France and could get modules sent to you if that would solve the problem. The code I have are 00589 001, 01638 008 and 01638 007, 01639 008 and 01639 007.
I have had both the rear sensors replaced and still have the same codes could this be the controller and if so can you repair
Unfortunately, the first garage diagnosed it improperly. The issue is the Airbag control module. I would recommend getting a replacement module and get it programmed to your vehicle. Sorry, there is nothing we can do for it. Feel free to reply.
It should not hurt anything as long as the module is installed properly.
There is no garage near to me that reprograms the control module. Would it be safe to replace the control module with a second hand one and then drive to a garage 2 hours away to reprogramme
